PUBLICATION BLUNDER IN TATTVA KAOMUDII

Namaskar,
It is so unfortunate the mistakes in Baba's books are rampant. Up till now Publications could not properly print Guru's discourses in book form. The errors and distortions are pervasive.

This letter examines one such critical error on a vital and foundational point of Ananda Marga ideology.

THREE CRITERIA NEEDED TO BE THEIST

ONE IS NOT ENOUGH

In one historic discourse from 1979 - (see note 2 for sound file) - Baba clearly outlines the requisite factors that define who is a theist, i.e. who is a believer in God.

Baba pointedly states that there are three criteria that need to be fulfilled. If all three are fulfilled then and only then is one a theist - otherwise not.

But the publishers have printed in Tattva Kaomudii and AM Philosophy in A Nutshell - 3 that having one criteria is enough. Yet, Baba's original audio file (see note 2) outlines how all three are needed.

THREE VS ONE

Here are those three qualifications needed to be a theist as given by Sadguru Baba.

A theist is one who accepts:
1. Jiivatma (unit consciousness)
2. Paramatama (supreme consciousness)
3. Veda (spiritual knowledge of how the jiivatma moves towards Paramatma)

Essentially, one must believe in the concept of unit consciousness - i.e. that each and every unit being has a mind and and soul. That is the first criteria.

Secondly, one must believe in the concept and existence of an all-pervading Supreme Consciousness that maintains a personal link with every unit being, as well as with the creation as a whole.

Thirdly, one must accept and understand the basic tenet of spiritual philosophy that by sadhana and His divine grace a unit being may move towards and ultimately merge into the Supreme Being.

According to Baba, all three criteria must be met in order for one to be considered a theist. Merely meeting one or two of the factors will not suffice. All three are required; then one is a theist, i.e. a believer in God. That is Baba's teaching and that is what is expressed in the sound file.

BOOK IS WRONG:

THEY PRINTED THAT ONE CRITERIA IS ENOUGH TO BE A THEIST

Unfortunately, in Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell part 3 Question & Answer discourse, the Publications Dept made a gross and significant error on this point about who is a theist.

Because in that book it states that only one of the aforementioned factors are required:

"Q. 35 – Who should be called an atheist (nástika)?"

"Ans.: – Those who do not believe in Consciousness (Atman), Supreme Consciousness (Paramátman) or Vedas are atheists. Those who believe in any one of them may be called theists." (Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell Part 3, Some Questions and Answers on Ananda Marga Philosophy #35, 1988)

(A scan of the full section is appended below.)

So here in this printed discourse, the Publishers indicate that only one of the three qualifications is needed to be a theist.
They claim that if one believes only in unit consciousness (atman), or if one believes only in Supreme Consciousness (Paramatman), or if one only accepts the vedas (spiritual philosophy), then that is sufficient for being a theist. Yet such a premise clearly violates the divine guideline Baba has given in a discourse in 1979 where He explains in great details about why all three factors are needed to be a theist – not just one.

Due to their negligence and gross error, the Publications team makes it look like Ananda Marga philosophy is by definition self-contradictory,
and that Baba says one thing in one discourse and another thing in another discourse. Such is the effect of this blunder by the Publications Dept.

As Ananda Margiis, we know that Baba'a divine teachings of Ananda Marga philosophy are wholly consistent in all regards. There is no point of contradiction. It all fits together clearly and cohesively.

Only the books are wrong. And it is incumbent upon the Publications Dept to revise its procedures so the books are printed properly.

OLD PUBLISHING MISTAKES ARE CARRIED OVER INTO NEW BOOKS

Actually, we should all understand the greater history as that shows what a serious and systemic problem this is.

The above error printed in Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell - 3 (1988) is actually a reprinting of the same discourse printed in Tattva Kaomudii part 1 (1958).

So this is the very grave concern: That old publishing mistakes are carried over into new books. This is not an isolated circumstance. There are innumerable examples where the same publishing errors are printed over and over again.

VERY GRAVE ISSUE:

CORE OF OUR ANANDA MARGA PHILOSOPHY

Bear in mind that here we are not talking about superficial aspects of presentation, but rather gross errors that distort the very core of our Ananda Marga philosophy.

Ananda Marga ideology is itself a God-centered philosophy. So clearly defining who is a theist holds great bearing on the preaching and propagation of Ananda Marga ideals.

FACADE WILL NOT HELP

So this is a vital point and when Baba has firmly declared and logically proven why three factors - 1. Jiivatma (unit consciousness) 2. Paramatama (supreme consciousness) 3. Veda (spiritual knowledge) - are needed to be a theist, then that should be clearly noted in our scripture.

So when those in Publications are printing books with gross errors and oversights that undermine Baba's teaching on such vital points, then that is a grave and serious matter that must be addressed.

Indeed, no one can say this is a small or outlying point. This is a very central aspect of Ananda Marga philosophy as those Publications Dept made a blatant and glaring error that misrepresents Baba's divine teachings. Merely creating a facade or sheen that all our books are proper will not work.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Renu Chakraborty

Note 1: HERE IS THE PROOF

OF WRONGLY
PRINTED DISCOURSE

"Q. 35 – Who should be called an atheist (nástika)?"

"Ans.: – Those who do not believe in Consciousness (Atman), Supreme Consciousness (Paramátman) or Vedas are atheists. Those who believe in any one of them may be called theists. Thus Christians, Muslims, Jews, Árya Samájists and Bráhma Samájists may all be called theists. Those who worship idols, those who symbolically offer various things such as sesame and holy water to satisfy the departed souls and those who call different peoples' fabricated stories “scriptures” should not be considered as genuine theists. Those people who follow certain religions and deny the existence of Paramátman, Átman and Vedas may also be called atheists." (Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell Part 3, Some Questions and Answers on Ananda Marga Philosophy #35, 1988)

Note 2: LISTEN TO THE SOUND FILE

If you listen to the sound file (click here) then this matter will be very clear. Because in that sound file from His original discourse, Baba pointedly outlines that three factor are need in order to be considered a theist.

A theist is one who accepts:
1. Jiivatma (unit consciousness)
2. Paramatama (supreme consciousness)
3. Veda (spiritual knowledge of how the jiivatma moves towards Paramatma)

Note 3: MORE BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Actually, we should all understand the greater history as that shows what a serious and systemic problem this is.

The above error printed in Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell (1988) is actually a reprinting of the same discourse printed in Tattva Kaomudii part 1 (1958).

In between that time, Baba graciously delivered a completely different discourse in 1979 – link to sound file in note 2 above. And this discourse makes the matter extremely clear. But those in Publications did not pay heed to the topic. It seems they do not study Guru’s teachings.

Because when the afore cited Q & A discourse from Tattva Kaomudii part 1 was reprinted and published in Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell – 3, then the same mistake was carried over, i.e. that only one factor was needed to be a theist. Even though Baba clearly delivered a separate discourse in 1979 that describes in detail why all three factors are needed in order to be declared a theist.

So this is the very grave concern: That old publishing mistakes are carried over into new books. This is not an isolated circumstance. There are innumerable examples where the same publishing errors are printed over and over again.

Bábá

WE MUST SAVE THESE THREE PEOPLE

Namaskar,
Thank you for your interest in this important topic that deals with the purity of Bábá’s printed books. Our Ananda Marga books are in a state of disarray – if you read carefully you will find mistakes everywhere. The problem is systemic and pervasive. That is the sad truth. The bright side is that if we are aware of the problems then we can come up with the proper solution.

“CONGENIAL FEELING” & “MOMENTUM” NOT SAME

Here is one critical example I wish to bring to your attention of a DMC discourse of 1971 published in Subhstita Samgraha - 10. Here we are presenting the Hindi, Bengali, and English versions. See note 5 for details.

The title of the English discourse is “Momentum and Attraction” and those two terms are used repeatedly throughout the discourse. According to Ananda Marga philosophy, those terms have been aptly used – the discourse is proper.

Now look at the title of the Bengali and Hindi versions. In place of momentum, the term samveda has been used: Sam + veda means congenial feeling. Thus in the Bengali and Hindi versions the title of the discourse is Congenial Feeling and Attraction. And the term samveda is used throughout the entire discourse. This severely misrepresents and undermines Guru’s discourse.

Those who know Bengali or Hindi can easily recognise that the published versions of the discourse do not make any sense. Samveda is not the right term, but it is used extensively throughout the discourse. Yet if fails to convey the proper meaning and instead leads the reader astray.

If you listen to the original audio file, you will see that Baba uses a completely different term. So it is a tragedy that this discourse was ruined in this way. Its backbone has been shattered & broken.

SCANS

Here below are the scans related with the above discussion. Scan #1 is the title and first page of the discourse in Bangla. Scan #2 is the title and first page of the discourse in Hindi, and scan #3 is the title and first para of the discourse in English. Remember, these scans are all of the same discourse, only the language varies. After these scans some very important information has been presented - the story of who was involved in this issue and what happened to them.

Please scroll down to read more - the most important part is below...

Scan #1: First Page of Bangla Edition

Scan #2: First Page of Hindi Edition

Scan #3: First Para of English Edition

FATAL FLAW – HE BLINDLY FOLLOWED DADA

Let’s examine how and why this happened.

Dada Sarvatmanandji cajoled and convinced family acarya Harishankarji to use the printed Bangla version as the base for the Hindi edition. That is how the problem spread.

As many may be aware, family acarya Harishankarji of the Ranchi bhukti was a very respected person who had many plus points, along with one fatal flaw – he blindly followed Dada Sarvatmanandji.

When Ranchi margiis came to know that Harishankarji was producing the Hindi text by translating from the Bengali printed edition, they respectfully requested Harishankarji to ask Sarvatmanandji for the original cassette and not use the Bengali text as the original. They pleaded with him and said, “Do not do injustice with Baba’s divine discourses.” But Harishankarji would only reply, “I have to follow the order of Dada Sarvatmanandji. What Dadaji tells I have to follow.”

LONGING TO GET PURODHASHIP

In his mind, Harishankarji had the longing to get purodhaship. That is why he stuck to and supported Sarvatmanandji’s plan not to use the original cassette and just translate from the Bengali edition. Ultimately, because the Bangla book was wrong that error was transferred to the Hindi edition also. Yet Harishankarji could not be moved; he would not budge. He was adamant about following Dada Sarvatmanandji. And in this way the printed Hindi publications got ruined. Here we are discussing the chapter with the above scans.

SCARY & GHASTLY DEATH OF AC H.

Sadly, prakrti could not tolerate this sin any longer and proceeded along its own course. Here is what happened.

It was the winter season and one morning, per his usual way, Harishankarji started a fire in a metal dish to warm his bedroom. Eventually he sat himself near the fire to keep warm. As fate would have it, he fell asleep and fell into the fire. By the time he realised what happened it was too late. Sadly, his body was savagely burned and he died within a few days time. That is the tragedy – his untimely death.

Maybe Harishankarji was punished by prakrti due to his Bangalisation work of Subhasita Samgraha parts 9, 10, 11, & 12. Instead of transcribing Baba’s original English and Hindi discourses directly from the audio cassettes into Hindi script, those English and Hindi discourses were translated into Bengali books and then retranslated back into Hindi. That is the work that Harishankarji did - thus, by this whole ordeal, he went against the very core of bhagavad dharma.

(Note: If you have the Hindi edition of any of these books, Subhasita Samgraha parts 9, 10, 11, & 12, then you will find that Harishankarji’s name is written on the inside front cover / publisher’s page as being part of the Bangalisation process.)

OUR DUTY IS TO WARN

Ultimately, Dada Sarvatmanandji recruited other people for the task. Thereafter, a similar approach was done by (1) Shrii Pradumanji of Purnea (Bihar, India), (2) Shrii Parmanandji from Basti Dist (Uttar Pradesh, India), and (3) Shrii Gaurishankarji from Arrah (Bihar, India).

At present, these people are following Dada Sarvatmanandji’s command. They are busy in Bangalisation. Instead of referencing the audio cassette and transcribing Baba’s original Hindi discourses directly into Hindi text, they are using the printed Bengali version of the discourse and then translating that into Hindi. This is called Bangalisation. That means that Hindi and English discourses are translated into Bengali and then retranslated  back into Hindi or English.

So these three aforementioned persons are busy in Bangalisation. Our duty is to warn them. Here following are their phone numbers:

Shrii Pradumanji of Purnea: 9661605762

Shrii Parmanandji of Basti Dist: 5542285869

Shrii Gaurishankarji of Arrah: 9431052800

Please contact them and warn them. We must save them lest they too be forced to face the wrath of prakrti. So those who can must inform them. That will be great service to humanity.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Shankar Sharma

Note 1: AUTHENTICITY OF BABA’S DISCOURSE

This is not a language issue; this issue is about the authenticity of Baba’s holy discourses.

Note 2: BRAINWASHED

Dada Sarvatmanandji has brainwashed (1) Shrii Pradumanji of Purnea (Bihar, India), (2) Shrii Parmanandji from Basti Dist (Uttar Pradesh, India), and (3) Shrii Gaurishankarji from Arrah (Bihar, India) by telling them again and again that there is no audio file for these discourses. But that is a lie. It is the same as the restaurant owner who wants to feed you non-veg, then he will repeat over and over again that all the vegetables in the entire city were destroyed by the infestation of salmonella. So you have to eat non-veg.

Note 3: DID NOT DO BANGALISATION TO ALL

Fortunately, there were some books that Harishankarji’s was not able to do. So he could not complete this Bangalisation process with all of the books, but he did ruin Subhasita Samgraha parts 9, 10, 11, 12. Those underwent the process of Bangalisation.

Note 4: MANY FLAWS - NOT ONLY DOUBLE TRANSLATION

The scriptural distortion related with the the Bengali edition of Subhasita Samgraha part 10 - as outlined above - is no the result of a "double translation", rather it was caused by a sloppy job of translation / transcription by the Publications Dept.

Note 5: DETAILS OF THE DISCOURSE

The discourse discussed above is published in Subhasita Samgraha chapter 2 (Hindi and Bengali), while the English edition is published in Ananda Marga Ideology & Way of Life - 11, chapter 3.

Note 6: SCAN OF ENTIRE FIRST PAGE OF DISCOURSE IN ENGLISH

Note 7: HERE IS THAT INFO AGAIN

In case you missed it up above, here again are their phone numbers to call and warn them.

Shrii Pradumanji of Purnea: 9661605762

Shrii Parmanandji of Basti Dist: 5542285869

Shrii Gaurishankarji of Arrah: 9431052800

Why Not Write to Sarvatmanandji to Fix the Mistakes in AM Books?

BABA
Why Not Write to Sarvatmanandji
to Fix the Mistakes in AM Books?

Respected Margii Brothers and Sisters,

Some people were asking, "Why don't you write your concerns to Tiljala Publications-- they are very sincere, and will fix whatever mistakes you point out. There is no need to write to the general Margiis about this. By writing to Tiljala Publications, they will be very happy to resolve the issues."

Here below is the reply to that question:

In the past many sincere Margiis have made attempts, but alas there was no fruit to be born. Rather, on various occasions over the past 24 years, when such matters were raised by concerned Margiis, then those senior Dadas in Tiljala Publications gave one of these ready-made replies,

#1: When Margiis asked why Baba’s non-Bengali discourses were labeled in the Publishers Notes as if Baba had spoken in Bangla, then they replied that, “It was just a mishap”.

#1b: Did the mishap ever occur that some of Baba's discourses given in Bengali, were mislabeled as given in English or Hindi? To this their answer is, "It is hardly the case that such mislabeling always occurs. It has occasionally occurred, and it just happened to have been with English and Hindi discourses mislabeled as Bengali, not vice-versa."

Or…

#2: “We are working hard. We are trying to do everything that you requested. But due to lack of resources and man-power it has not been done. But we will do it – you need not worry.” But years passed and nothing was ever done – the status of the books did not change – so this was just their political reply.

Or…

#3: “The persons pointing out the mistakes do not have any work to do. That's why they are pointing out."

Or…

#4: Upon showing them any mistake in the book they proclaim, “Oh this is just a typo, the next edition will be properly done. So do not worry about that.” But years passed and nothing was ever done – the status of the books did not change – so this was just their political reply.

Or…

#5: If you show them that one of their published discourses is just a summary whereas Baba’s original spoken discourse is much longer then they tell that, “Oh, we had to published it from the magazine version. We did not have the cassette. So that is the reason it is in summary form; because we used the version from the magazine.” But years passed and nothing was ever done – the status of the books did not change – so this was just their political reply.

These are the ready-made replies in their “brochures” and office manuals for how to reply to Margiis.

In essence, they always tried to charge-sheet those concerned Margiis by accusing them (#3), or they would give a political answer just to smooth over and divert the topic of conversation (i.e. reply #2, #4, #5) and keep the status quo.

#6: The problem is they have no idea what they have in their Baba’s audio stock nor do they have interest to actively work on these archive materials.

Tragically, in all such circumstances, in the next edition that is printed 30 years after the first edition, even more mistakes happen.

All this we have experienced on numerous occasions. So the only way left is to make a hew and cry.

Brotherly yours,
at His lotus feet,
C.

Note: The following is the example of the scan of the book Tattvika Praveshika. Here, Baba is talking about kamamaya kosa. When it got printed in the Ananda Marga Philosophy series, then this section got distorted. So even this simple reprinting could not be done properly. And for the last thirty years this distortion has remained. So the conclusion is that in the original book it was proper, but in reprinting it got ruined.

The conclusion is that if you read carefully any Ananda Marga Book, then you will notice that they are not free of mistakes.

Hindi Discourse Falsified as Bangla
Download Sound File & Check for Yourself
Namaskar,

Thank you for your interest in this important topic that deals with the purity of Bábá's printed books.
Preview
This letter addresses another discourse in which the original language is stolen and covered up As Bangla. The discourse is from the newest English Ánanda Vacanámrtam, AV Part 13, chapter 10.
The letter contains the following points:
1: Please download the sound file so you can better understand this issue (see note 1).
2: The discourse under question and scrutiny is: AV13 "A Yogii Must Certainly Be A Theist".
3: This is a Patna Hindi Discourse, Stolen & Covered Up As Bangla.
4: All should know that Bábá originally delivered the discourse, AV13 "A Yogii Must Certainly Be A Theist," in Hindi on 30 June 1979, in Patna. But the publishers have declared that Bábá spoke in Bangla. That is their deception.
5: FACT: This discourse, "A Yogii Must Certainly Be A Theist", was given by Bábá in Hindi. They translated this discourse from Hindi into Bengali, and then again from Bengali into English—and published that twice-translated English version in the English book, Ánanda Vacanámrtam, part 13, chapter 10, p.82. But Bábá's rule is that translation is to be done directly from the original language, i.e. in this case from Hindi directly to English—which they did not do. So they disobeyed Bábá.
6: The printed and published English discourse does not match up with Bábá’s original Hindi which Bábá Himself spoke. The outcome is that instead of reading Bábá’s original words in direct translation, Márgiis are forced to read a twice-translated version which, due to being translated twice (first from Hindi to Bengali and then Bengali to English), is in great part far from what Bábá actually spoke in Hindi. This occurred due to not following Bábá's rule of translating directly from Hindi to English—and the ramifications of going against this rule are horrific.
7: Be sure to play the sound and carefully review the published discourse.
8: For your reference and confirmation, the sound file containing Bábá’s original discourse has been posted to the blogsite (see note 1). Just by listening to a few words, anyone knowing Hindi can understand that Bábá is speaking Hindi – not Bengali.
9: You can contact any private business translating agency also and confirm with them that in this sound file, Bábá is speaking Hindi and not Bengali.
10: But look what the publishers have written about this very discourse in their Publisher’s Note:
"A Yogii Must Certainly Be A Theist". Discourse in Bengali. Tape. Originally published in Bengali as “Yogii Avashyai Ástik Haben” in Ánanda Vacanámrtam 13, 1980. First English Publication in Yoga Sadhana, 2010, tr. from the Bengali by Doctor Aditya Kumar Mohanty.
(Ánanda Vacanámrtam, part 13, Publisher’s Note, p. xxii)
So in their Publisher’s Note they are making the bogus claim that this discourse was originally given in Bengali. But this is wrong.
11: This proves that Professor Aditya Mohanty is a stooge, and his work is disgraceful. He betrayed Guru by falsifying the entire situation.
12: The purpose of this letter is to make Bábá's printed discourses authentic and dogma-free. This is not a language issue this is an issue of authenticity. The duty of every disciple of Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji is to keep watch on the purity of Guru's printed books.

13: If you are new to this network and you tried but are still not sure how to proceed then let us know. We are ready to help you.

Summary: The discourse "A Yogii Must Certainly Be A Theist" was given by Bábá in Hindi, in Patna. The Tiljala Publishers have printed that it was given in Bangla, in order to falsely make it appear that Bábá gave more discourses in Bengali than any other language. They translated the discourse twice: from Hindi to Bangla, and from Bangla into English—thus straying the English version far away from the Hindi original.

Part One of this letter ends here. In part two, I shall further explain the above points.

Namaskar,
Kanhay Choudhary

a. This letter addresses a completely new point that what Bábá spoke they left out, and what He did not speak they concocted and added. (see note 1 & Details below.)
b. Wrong Done by T. Publications.

        1. Bábá's original discourse is in Hindi
        2. The Publishers claimed it was in Bangla
        3. Discourse ruined by unnecessary double translation.

c. TP is not giving you – the reader – Bábá's original words, rather they are giving you a tainted discourse in the book – SS19 chapter 7.
d. You have the right to have Guru’s original teaching, which you are not getting.
e. We have provided Bábá's original sound file as proof of the issue; see and listen for yourself; do not believe on others' hearsay. (see note 2)
f. Anyone can recognize Bábá is speaking Hindi. (see note 3)
g. This whole posting unmasks the falsehood of the Publishers Page. (see note 4)
h. As a result, SS19 chapter 7 has been ruined.
i. T. Publications is diverting the matter away from serious distortions in the above discourse.
j. The purpose of this letter is to make Bábá's printed discourses authentic and dogma-free. This is not a language issue this is an issue of authenticity.
k.  The duty of every disciple of Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji to keep their eye on the purity of Guru's printed books.

Detailed Main Section:

Bábá delivered a discourse titled Jinána aor Vikásha (Knowledge and Progress) originally in Hindi. An English translation of this discourse was first published in Subháśita Saḿgraha Part 19 with the title “Knowledge and Progress”. (see note 1) The most recent English version is found in the Electronic Edition 7.5, 2009 edition.

There are several distortions in this discourse “Knowledge and Progress”, which are highlighted in this series of postings; this posting is the fourth in the series. (see note 2)

Pivotal Example of Sadrsha Parińáma (homomorphic evolution) Omitted

In the original As-Is discourse, Bábá has introduced the concept of sadrsha parińáma and has also presented an example to clarify this concept. The Tiljala publishers have omitted Bábá's example and thereby made the description unclear.

Bábá Introduces Sadrsha Parińáma (homomorphic evolution)

Here below, a paragraph from the original As-Is discourse is presented, in which, Bábá has introduced the concept of sadrsha parińáma.

Original Hindi Section Introducing Sadrsha Parińáma
Presented From the Middle of the Discourse

Here below is a section of the discourse given by Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji. The As-Is discourse is carefully transcribed from the original Hindi discourse. The underlined portion in green was discarded by the Tiljala Publishers and has never been printed anywhere.

Color coding:
Green color means original “As Is” Hindi text. (The Tiljala Publishers distorted this text and introduced it with a brief summary, shown further below in red.)

Section from Middle of Original Hindi Discourse, Omitted by Tiljala Publishers, Begins Here.

तब ज्ञान, सही ज्ञान क्या है ? सही ज्ञान उसी वस्तु का ज्ञान है, जो देश-काल-पात्र के अनुसार परिवर्त्तित नहीं होता है | That doesn’t undergo any metamorphosis according to change in temporal, spatial, or personal factors | तो, इस तरह की वस्तु कौन है ?

अब देखो, इस दुनिया में हम लोग जो कुछ भी देखते हैं, उसमें cause and effect factor काम करता है | Causal factor है, उसके बाद ही effect factor है | Next phase में effect factor, causal factor बन जाता है | और, नया एक effect factor बनता है | फिर, next phase में वही effect factor, causal factor बन जाता है | Next phase effect factor बनता है—ऐसा ही चलता है | Mister A, उसका बेटा B | A causal factor, B effect factor | Next phase में B causal factor, उसका बेटा C effect factor | Next phase में C एक causal factor, उसका बेटा D effect factor | तो, एक phase में जो effect factor, next phase में वही causal factor—यही है नियम | तन्त्र में इसी को सदृशपरिणाम कहते हैं | सदृशपरिणाम | तो, जब तक हम time-space-persons के scope में हैं, तब तक cause and effect factor काम करेगा | और, cause and effect factor जहाँ काम करता है, वहीं समझ लेना चाहिए कि, वह वस्तु स्थाई नहीं है | उस वस्तु-सम्बन्धीय ज्ञान को लेकर, हम घमण्ड नहीं कर सकते हैं | हम नहीं कह सकते हैं कि—"हम जानते हैं" | वेद में कहा है—

Translated  Section From Middle of Original Hindi Discourse

A literal English translation of the above text in Hindi (green colored text above), which Bábá directly spoke has been provided here for the convenience of non-Hindi speaking readers. The below translated text is again colored green to show that it corresponds to the green-colored Hindi text shown above.

Then what is true knowledge? True knowledge is the knowledge of that thing, which does not change relative to time, place, or person. That doesn’t undergo any metamorphosis according to change in temporal, spatial, or personal factors. Then what is this kind of thing? Now see, whatever we see in this world, in that the cause and effect factor works. Causal factor is there and after that only is the effect factor. In the next phase, the effect factor becomes causal factor. And, a new factor is made. In the next phase, that effect factor becomes causal factor. Next phase effect factor is made – this keeps on going. Say, Mister A’s son is B. A is causal factor and B is effect factor. In the next phase, B becomes causal factor and his [B’s] son C is effect factor.  In the next phase, C becomes causal factor and his [C’s] son D is effect factor. So, in one phase, whatever is effect factor, in the next phase that becomes causal factor – this is the rule. In Tantra, this is called as sadrsha parińáma (homomorphic evolution). So, as long as we are under the scope of time, place, and person, until then the cause and effect factors will work. And wherever, cause and effect factors work, we should understand, that thing is not permanent. We cannot be vane for having knowledge of such things [which are dependent upon time, place, and person].  We cannot say – “We know”.

Tiljala Publishers' distorted text begins here.

Published by Tiljala Group

Here is what the Tiljala Publishers printed in the latest Electronic Edition 7.5, 2009 edition, corresponding to the portion of discourse given above highlighted by the green color.

Color coding:  Red color is the corresponding paragraph taken from AMPS Tiljala published discourse “Knowledge and Progress”.

So what is true knowledge? True knowledge is the knowledge of that object which never undergoes any metamorphosis due to changes in time, space, and person. Everything in the world is causal; that is, the effect is followed by the cause, and the cause by the effect. It goes on like this. The effect of one phase becomes the cause of the next. This is known as sadrsha parińáma in Tantra. As long as we are under temporal, spatial and personal factors, the cause-and-effect factor will work. Where the cause-and-effect factor works, there only imperfection exists. One cannot be proud [of] the knowledge springing out of that source.

Scanning again over the green and red sections above, one can see in a graphic way how truncated the passage is that they printed, compared to what Bábá actually said. Bábá has provided far more detail in this section, than what the Publishers translated and printed.

Omission of Example in Guru’s Discourse

To make the matter worse, Tiljala group decided on their own that some of Bábá’s examples are useless. In the provided paragraph, the omitted example is underlined and is provided below again for reader’s convenience.

The description of cause and effect factor has been given by Bábá using this simple to understand example.  Bábá’s example is self-explanatory that the effect B of a cause A becomes a cause (of C) in the next phase, i.e., son B of father A can later become father of C. Now let us see what Tiljala group has done to this simple to understand example. Firstly, they removed this example altogether. Secondly, they provided the following description in its place:

that is, the effect is followed by the cause, and the cause by the effect.

There are two parts of the above sentence. The first part is "the effect is followed by the cause", which means that effect comes before the cause. This is a strange expression, as an effect is the result of a cause and not the other way round. The second part "and the cause by the effect" is ambiguous as well. It seems that the 'cause' referred to in the second part is the same 'cause' alluded to in the first part due to the presence of the article 'the' before it.

The overall sense of what Bábá is really giving here is that an effect is the result of a cause; and at a later stage that effect can become the cause of some other effect. This is explained by Bábá using the example of Mr A, B, and C, where A is the father of B and B is the father of C. A is the cause of B and B is the cause of C. In other words, A (the cause) is followed by B (the effect). Likewise, B (presently a cause, earlier an effect) is followed by C (effect). The effect B in the first stage becomes the cause of C at a later stage.

However, in the published version, the suppression of Bábá's example and misrepresentation of His teaching has altered the core of His expression leading to many confusions and misunderstandings.

Distortion in Guru's Discourse is Not Acceptable

In this posting, a distortion in the form of sentence inserted by Tiljala publishers is brought to the notice of Ánanda Márgiis. Bábá’s all teachings are pointed and such a distortion is digressing the main idea of the teaching. This kind of dilution of such great teachings is certainly inappropriate.

As Ánanda Márgiis it is our duty to understand, appreciate, internalize, and propagate Bábá’s true teachings. In order to fulfill this duty, that Ánanda Márga scripture which we study and propagate, has to be proper. If our scripture itself is distorted, then what we learn and propagate will also be distorted. So when we see that our shástra is indeed full of errors introduced by our Publishers, then it becomes our duty to point this out and put  pressure to get our books fixed. This will prevent people from getting misguided and thereby true pracára of Bábá’s teachings can take place.

Sincerely,

Bhakti

3. If you don't know Hindi, you can contact any private business translating agency also and confirm with them that in this sound file, Bábá is speaking Hindi and not Bengali.

4. On the Publishers Page it is written, “Translated from the Original Bengali”. That means the Publishers claim the discourse was originally given in Bengali. And it was translated into English using English as the source language. When actually the discourse was given in Hindi, so using Bengali as the source language is totally inappropriate and serves to distort the English translation.
