#1 Distortions in Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part 23:

False Source Used

Namaskár Respected Márgii Brothers and Sisters,

In 1968, Bábá delivered an RU discourse which was published in English under the name, “Accomplish Your Work with This Body Only”. (1) This English discourse is published by the Tiljala group in Ánanda Vacanámrtam part 23, and is listed there as having been given in the Philippines.
Publishers Failed To Inform

That The Listed Venue Was A Guess

Although the Publishers do not say as much, their listing of the discourse as having been given in the Philippines was a guess. This guess, along with the circumstances in their office that led to the guess, resulted in a maze of serious distortions in the discourse.
Publishers' Guess From Untrustworthy Source

The reason for the Tiljala Publishers' guess as to the location is revealed in their Publishers' Note at the beginning of Ánanda Vacanámrtam part 23. In their Publishers' Note they present each discourse in the volume, tell the original language of the discourse, as well as the source from which they are printing it. Below is the listing they provided for the current discourse:

Accomplish Your Work with This Body Only”. Discourse in English. Source: “Bábá’s Discourse” Philippines cyclostyle.
More on False Source Used for Discourse

In the above Publishers' Note, the Tiljala Publishers report that the discourse was given by Bábá in English, and that their source for the discourse is “Bábá’s Discourse” from “Philippines cyclostyle”. (2) In other words, the discourse published in Ánanda Vacanámrtam part 23 has not been transcribed from the sound cassette as it should have been. Rather, the Tiljala Publishers found the discourse in an Ánanda Marga cyclostyle which had been made in the Philippines. In the cyclostyle there was an article listed as “Bábá’s Discourse”, so the Tiljala staff reprinted it in Ánanda Vacanámrtam part 23. The cyclostyle was made in the Philippines, so the Tiljala Publishers listed the discourse as has having been given in the Philippines.
Publishers Should Have Used Sound Track as Source

False Source Led to Serious Errors

Here multiple serious errors were made by the Tiljala Publishers. First, where discourses are available from sound track then the sound track must be listened to and the discourse transcribed in the original languagewhich in this case was Hindi. By so doing, the Publishers will get verified information about the discourse: where it was given, and exactly what it contains. By not doing so, our Tiljala Publishers are billing as genuine something before the Má́rgii public, when it may not be at all genuine. That is what happened here, and it is shamefully irresponsible. Here the Tiljala Publishers are approving with the authority of Publishers, that what they present is accurate—and Ánanda Má́rgiis accept that what the Publishers are printing is accurate, i.e. is truly what Bábá said.
Errors Enumerated

Here then are the initial errors that occurred as a result of the Tiljala Publishers' irresponsible behavior: Firstly, the discourse was delivered by Bábá in Hindi—not in English as the Tiljala Publishers claim.

Secondly, the question then arises as to whether a discourse given by Bábá in Hindi, could have occurred in the Philippines? The answer to this question is known by all: It is quite obvious that any discourse given by Bábá in the Philippines would have been given in English.
Listening to Taped Discourse

Would have Solved The Problem

So here if our Tiljala Publishers had concern to produce genuine material, then their first work would be to produce discourses in the original language from original recorded tape, and then to translate from that into English and other languages. Had the Publishers followed this basic mandate, they would have immediately realized that the discourse was given in Hindi, and therefore in India. But they did not do so, and by this their first error was to label the discourse erroneously as having been given in English, and their second to conclude from the country of origin of the cyclostyle that the discourse itself was given in the Philippines—when in reality from the recording it is obviously given in the Hindi language, and therefore in the country of India.
Discourse Subject Is Additional Proof of Wrong Venue

Regarding the matter of the discourse venue, it is worthy of noting that the topic of discussion in the discourse also gives important information. In this discourse Bábá is speaking harshly about corrupt political rulers as dogs, and this type of discussion could only have occurred in India where Bábá commonly taught about the crude politics of the day. One will not find discourses describing corrupt political leaders as dogs given outside of India.
False Source Cause of Distortion

We find then that the Tiljala Publishers used a false source—an old cyclostyle—as the base for publishing a discourse of Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji. As a result, they published (1) a false original language, and (2) an incorrect country of discourse. This all occurred because the Publishers adopted a cyclostyle as their source. A cyclostyle is inherently untrustworthy; it is merely a template for a newsletter.

It should be added that those who make a newsletter may curtail the discourse as well, due to limitations of space or other factors, and they are otherwise not beholden to maintain the authenticity of the discourse the way the AMPS Publishers are.
Not Only Language and Venue Wrong

Discourse Contains Innumerable Distortions

Indeed, wrong original language (English) and country of delivery (Philippines) are not the only problems that arose in this AV-23 publication because of using the cyclostyle.Due to having taken the discourse from a cyclostyle instead of transcribing it from tape, the Tiljala Publishers have no idea what sort of inaccuracies, distortions, and deletions might be occuring in the text of that cyclostyle. And in this discourse there are innumerable distortions.

So now we have a Hindi discourse given in India in 1968, which was translated some time later by unknown persons and printed on a cyclostyle in the Philippines. There are a large number of deviations in this cyclostyle's English “translation” from the original Hindi discourse given by Bábá.
Wrongful Assumptions by Tiljala Publishers

Have Serious Sequelae

In this posting, it is seen that the Tiljala Publishers made a serious error in assuming a cyclostyle from the Philippines to: (1) be in the original language, (2) originate from the actual site of the discourse, and (3) contain accurate reproduction of text. Their assumptions were wrong on all three accounts. In view of the fact that the Tiljala Publishers have the audio recording in their office and did not bother to review it, these errors were both avoidable, and very serious in nature. Ultimately the errors of content in the discourse are the most critical, for readers believe they are reading the words of Táraka Brahma when in fact they are not. Here the history leading to the distortions in the discourse “Accomplish Your Work with This Body Only”, has been given. In subsequent postings the actual text distortions—which are quite serious—will be presented.
Bábá's Teaching on Scripture

Bábá says, "Mahásambhúti, of the same order as Brahmakot́i [Púrńávatára], comes to the world to educate people, to create a Cosmic vibration in the world – and that vibration continues to guide society as long as it exists." [MBH-06] The whole purpose of the coming of Mahásambhúti is education of the people. Bábá has explained that if Lord Krśńa had not come and shown a new direction to the society, the human society would have been destroyed. And it is the same with Bábá Himself: He has come to educate the people; if his scripture is not saved, is not fixed, then the whole purpose of His coming will be ruined. So fixing the scripture of Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji is perhaps the most important and vital work in which Ánanda Má́rgiis can partake today.

At His lotus feet,

Ramesh Bhai Patel

Footnotes.

1. By the political subjects addressed in the discourse, it is known that this is an RU Discourse.

2. Cyclostyle = a kind of pen with a small toothed wheel, used for cutting minute holes in a specially prepared stencil. Copies of the design so formed can be printed on a duplicator by forcing ink through the holes In AM, cyclostyle used to be used before the days of xerox machines when a newsletter or bulletin was being made for a limited number of people, say 20-50. More than that and the newsletter would be printed in standard fashion via a printing press; with few people to distribute to this technology was cheaper than printing.

Quotes From Previous Posts

It is regrettable that H and EC groups have no interest in Bábá’s discourses, otherwise they would have become active in publishing them from the original sound track instead of merely reprinting the books which the Tiljala group publishes. The distortions introduced by Tiljala group in their publications of Bábá’s discourses are errors of commissional in nature. But let none make the mistake of thinking that H and EC groups are innocent here; by their failure to take interest in publishing Bábá’s original discourses, they demonstrate a lethargy toward Bábá’s shástra which is highly condemnable. H and EC groups’ failure to publish Bábá’s original discourses is a failure of omission. The omissional error of H and EC is every bit as serious as the commissional errors of Tiljala group.”

Request for Volunteers

We make a special request for volunteers to help in this work of producing and reviewing the “as is” discourses. Márgii volunteers are needed from all countries around the world, to help with translating the “as is” discourses into the various languages, and also to help with translating postings about distortions so that all Márgiis around the world can be made aware. Comparing the “as is” discourses to the discourses published by our AMPS is a big job, and help here is also needed. We welcome a hand from any and all who are inspired and interested to serve in the protection of the discourses of Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji.

Moderators Note 2.

Need for Audio Recordings

In order to produce “As Is” discourses, there is a need for audio cassettes of Bábá's discourses. These are treated with the utmost of care as we do the job for which the recordings were made: discourse transcription. So any who have recordings of Bábá's discourses are encouraged to contact us in order to get the recording transcribed in “As Is” fashion.

Moderators Note 3:

Only Goal of Ánanda Má́rga Discourses Network:

To Protect Bábá's Discourses

This Ánanda Má́rga Discourses Network does not have any agenda against any group. Its only goal is to repair and protect Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji's holy discourses so they will remain for the present and future humanity.

Moderators Note 4:

Fix Bábá's Discourses Now or Never

If we remain passive onlookers and do not fix the negative trends of introducing distortion into Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji's discourses and do not bring the printed discourses up to the proper standard now, it will become impossible to change this in the future. And even if in future some sincere Ánanda Márgiis will try, they will be treated as enemies. Because this is the way religion works. Today one cannot teach the devotees of Lord Krśńa that He has nothing to do with cows; they will never believe it. In the same way, Ánanda Márgiis will become used to the wrong teachings in our AM books and they will not like to give them up. They will think that whatever was there at the end of the twentieth century, that was the gold standard for all time. And it should be kept and maintained. So we don't have any time: it is either now or never. The clock is ticking: If we do not get Bábá's discourses fixed now, it will be impossible to do so later. And that will cause bloodshed and more division on the basis of the various versions of Bábá's teachings and their explanations. History bears testimony to this, that all the religions have similarly broken into multiple factions, groups and subgroups on the basis of differences in scripture interpretations. Bábá wanted to eliminate such problems, and that is why Bábá's discourses are recorded. But unfortunately, those recordings are not being published properly. This matter is very serious.
