About Distortions in "The Birthright of the Microcosm" - Part Four

Bábá

Namaskára Respected Márgii Brothers and Sisters,

Here we present the second Ánanda Márga Discourse of this network, which has been prepared in “as is” fashion—that is, exactly as spoken by Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji. The discourse has been titled by the publishers as “The Birthright of the Microcosm”, and printed in Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three*.

We have divided this presentation into a series of four postings:
  1. Introduction to the Errors in “The Birthright of the Microcosm”, Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three.
  2. Detailed Presentation of the Errors in the English Language Edition
  3. Detailed Presentation of the Errors in the Hindi Language Edition
  4. The “As Is” Discourse and the Published Discourse

Here follows the final in a series of four. This posting contains first the “as is” discourse, which is followed by the version published by AMPS (B) as “The Birthright of the Microcosm”, in Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three.

So below you will find:
  1. The actual, word-for-word “as is” discourse, carefully transcribed from the audio by Kálátiita, one of our network editors.
  2. The version published by AMPS (B) as “The Birthright of the Microcosm”, in Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three.

In the previous three postings, detailed analysis has been presented of the distortions in the English, Bengali, and Hindi editions published by AMPS (B) and AMPS (H/EC). Please refer to those postings in going through the as-is and distorted versions of the discourse below. Using these three earlier postings will render the differences in the two versions of the discourse easily detectable, and make further comparison of the two versions easy.

For thirty-two years, Ánanda Márgiis have been reading the words of this discourse and thinking them to be Bábá's. Now for the first time the final three paragraphs, as well as every word of the rest of the discourse, is prepared in “as is” fashion and presented below.

I. Actual, word-for-word “as is” discourse

Note: The following, recently transcribed by Kálátiita, is a verbatim i.e. word-for-word rendering of exactly what Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji has spoken in this discourse. Therefore one must understand that this is spoken language, and read it carefully to understand the intent of the speaker.

Birthright of The Microcosm (“Brahmacakra, Jiiva and Exploitation No More”)**
6 October 1978 Patna, General Darshan

Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe brhante
Asmin haḿso bhrámyate Brahmacakre;
Prthagátmánaḿ preritáraiṋca matvá
juśt́astatastenámrtatvameti.

As you know, all are progeny of the same Supreme Progenitor. He created this universe and He created this material world, as well as the living children of His. Now, when he has created the material world, the inanimate world, the plants and the human beings, common sense says that the entire world belongs to His children irrespective of caste, creed, religion, nationality, standard of education, standard of wisdom, or standard of physical, mental or spiritual strength. It is the vested interests, who create disparity amongst living creatures, and specially amongst human beings—with their mean and base motives.

So those who exploit others and want to enjoy this created world by depriving others of their legitimate and paternal rights, they are enemies of the society. They are enemies of humanity, and they are enemies of the cultured, civilized world.

Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe brhante.” But, the created beings, His loving sons and daughters, His children, they are moving around Him. They cannot get themselves detached from Him because He is the Supreme Nucleus and others are all just like electrons moving round (1) the nucleus. So the Puruśottama, Parama Puruśa, the Supreme Father, the Supreme Progenitor, is in the center, and others are moving and dancing round Him. They move along with their different psychic and physical pabula.

Physical needs are not the same [for all]. So, I said they are moving with their respective pabula. And similarly, psychic longings, psychic desires, psychic propensities are not the same for all. Here it has been said, “a'jiiva”, a'jiiva means “occupation", both physical and mental, that is, the pabulum. It is a fact that each and every individual has got his respective physical pabulum and also psychic pabulum. But this doesn't mean that one’s physical pabulum or psychic pabulum should be snatched away by others. That is, one must not be deprived of one’s physical pabulum and psychic pabulum. And those who do like that, or those who try to do it, I say they are enemies of human civilization. They are the cursed children of the Supreme Progenitor. "Sarvájiive."

And, “sarvasaḿsthe.” Now, according to mental propensities, mental longings and desires, mental thirst and hunger, they get different frameworks, different physical structures, in order to quench their thirst, satisfy their hunger. So, some are in an animal form, some are in insect form, some are in plant form, and some are in human form. And even in human form they are different from one another according to the difference in their reactive momenta.

Now, according to the difference in their reactive momenta, the distance varies from the Nucleus. Somebody is a few inches away, somebody a few feet, somebody a few miles—but all are moving round Him. Somewhere the radius is small, somewhere the radius is big. Someone is moving around the Parama Pitá like this, someone like this, someone like this. But they are all moving, and each having its own radius according to its own reactive momenta. But, move they must. They will have to move round Him, just like electrons moving round the nucleus. “Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe.” So they are moving with their own physical and psychic pabula, in their respective structures, in their respective forms.

Now, when one’s goal becomes cruder from crude, the distance, that is, the length of the radius, increases. He is drifted away from the center because of his base thoughts, and base longings, and base actions. And when the thoughts and actions become subtler from subtle, the length of the radius decreases, and a day comes, a sweet moment comes, when he becomes one with the Nucleus. That is what is called mokśa. "Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe brhante."

"Asmin haḿso bhrámyate Brahmacakre"—“Haḿso” means “jiiva”, that is, “living", with the acoustic root, haḿso. Haḿso is the acoustic root of jiiva.

Each and every object has got its own acoustic root. “A” (2) is the acoustic root of creation. “Ae” is the acoustic root of knowledge. “Ka” is the acoustic root of the expressed world. “Kha” is the acoustic root of the sky. “Ra” is the acoustic root of energy. Similarly, “haḿso” is the acoustic root of the jiiva.

Tasmin haḿso Bhrámyate Brahmacakre.” This haḿso, this jiiva, is moving along this Cosmological system, along its Cosmological route, like this. "Asmin haḿso Bhrámyate Brahmacakre." The small system, the atomic system, and bigger than this system there is this ethereal system of ours. In the atomic system there is a small nucleus, and electrons are moving round. And in our ethereal system, the earth is the nucleus and the moon is moving round it. And, in our solar system, the sun is the nucleus and so many planets and satellites are moving round it. And similarly, in our Brahma Cakra, the Puruśottama is the Nucleus, and each and every entity, animate or inanimate, is moving around Him. तो, "Asmin haḿso Bhrámyate Brahmacakre." And they will be moving round Him, like this.

Prthagátmánaḿ preritáraiṋca matvá.” So long as they feel that they and their Nucleus, Progenitor and its progeny are different, are away from each other—as long as they think that they and their Sender, that is the Progenitor—are two different entities—they will have to move like this. And when they'll feel that, "I am a part of that Supreme Father and I should be one with Him, and be one with Him in this big ocean of divine nectar"—they become one with Him. Prthagátmánaḿ preritáraiṋca matvá. As soon as they feel, "No, no, no, not a different entity, not any separate entity. They are the same thing, rudimentally they are the same." Then and there, what will happen? That gap, that is the radius, will disappear. They will become one with the Nucleus. This is the merger with the Nucleus. तो, Prthagátmánaḿ preritáraiṋca matvá.

Juśt́astatastenámrtatvameti.” And when by His grace, by the grace of the Progenitor, this feeling is developed, that "we are not two different entities, we are fundamentally one". Then and there, his movement like this stops. And he goes beyond the periphery of the circle of life and death. Now, for this divine grace, what one is to do? People say that in order to get the divine grace, one should develop love for Him, one should love Him. And, how to love Him? To love Him means, by serving, by loving His children. If you want, to be graced by a lady, what you are to do? You are to love her child. If you love her child like this, the lady will be very much satisfied. So, the Parama Purus'a will be satisfied when you love His children. And, who are His children? These created beings.

So, those who want to exploit others by preaching fools' philosophies and scoundrels' logics, they are the cursed persons of the Supreme Progenitor. They are adhármika. Each and every human being should be given equal scope to develop himself. And, nobody in this universe should be exploited. There must not be a wee bit of exploitation in the world of human beings.

Footnotes:

(1) Bábá often says "round" instead of "around". One well-known grammarian says that round is also fine: "'Round' works virtually anywhere 'around' would work. The reverse is not true, as round has a number of definitions it doesn’t share with around. ... British writers in particular are wont to use round in place of around. This substitution does occur in American English, but much less often."

(2) For those familiar with the devanágarii alphabet, we are inserting here below the same paragraph together with the devanágarii equivalents for the respective sounds. Using the devanágarii letters, the sound expected will be easily understood:

Each and every object has got its own acoustic root. “A” [] is the acoustic root of creation. “Ae” [] is the acoustic root of knowledge. “Ka” [] is the acoustic root of the expressed world. “Kha” [] is the acoustic root of the sky. Similarly, “Ra” [] is the acoustic root of energy. Similarly, “haḿso” is the acoustic root of the jiiva.
6 October 1978, Patna

(3) Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji always blesses those present at the end of a discourse, by saying “Kalyáńamastu” or “Shubhamastu”. On some recordings the sound is cut just after the discourse ends due to which Bábá's blessing is not heard. In such cases, we put Baba's blessing in square brackets to indicate that it was given by Bábá, but not heard on the particular recording.

There the missing sections are coded in purple.)

The Birthright of the Microcosm
6 October 1978, Patna

Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe Brhante
Tasmin haḿso Bhrámyate Brahmacakre
Prthagátmánaḿ preritáraiṋca matvá
Juśt́astatastenámrtatvameti.

As you know, all are the progeny of the same Supreme Progenitor. He created this universe and He created this material world, as well as His living children. Now, when he created the material world, the inanimate world, the plants and the human beings, common sense says that the entire world belongs to His children irrespective of caste, creed, religion, nationality, standard of education, standard of wisdom, or standard of physical, mental or spiritual strength. It is the vested interests, with their mean and base motives, that create disparity among living creatures, especially among human beings. So those who exploit others and want to enjoy this created world by depriving others of their legitimate and paternal rights, are the enemies of society. They are the enemies of humanity, and they are the enemies of the cultured and civilized world.

Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe brhante.” His created beings, His loving sons and daughters, His children, are moving round Him. They cannot get themselves detached from Him because He is the Supreme Nucleus and others are just like electrons moving round the nucleus. So Puruśottama, Parama Puruśa, the Supreme Father, the Supreme Progenitor, is in the centre, and the others are moving and dancing round Him. They move along with their different psychic and physical pabula.

Physical needs are not the same for all. So, I have said that they are all moving with their respective pabula. Similarly, psychic longings, psychic desires, psychic propensities are not the same for all. Here it has been said, “ajiiva”, which means “occupations”, both physical and mental, that is, pabulum. It is a fact that each and every individual has got his respective physical pabulum and also psychic pabulum. But this does not mean that one’s physical pabulum or psychic pabulum should be snatched away by others. That is, one must not be deprived of one’s physical or psychic pabulum. Those who do such a thing, or try to do so, I have said, are the enemies of human civilization. They are the cursed children of the Supreme Progenitor.

Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe.” According to mental propensities, mental longings and desires, mental thirst and hunger, the jiivas get different frameworks, different physical structures, in order to quench their thirst, to satisfy their hunger. So, some are in animal form, some are in insect form, some are in plant form, and some are in human form. And even in human form they are different from one another in accordance with the difference in their reactive momenta.

Now, according to the difference in their reactive momenta, there is a difference in distance from the Nucleus. Someone is a few inches away, someone a few feet, someone a few miles away – but all are moving around the Nucleus around Him. Somewhere the radius is small, somewhere the radius is big. Someone is moving around Parama Pitá in one way, someone else in another way, and someone else in still another way. But they are all moving, and each being has its own radius according to its reactive momenta. Move they must. They will have to move round Him, just like electrons moving round the nucleus. “Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe.” So they are moving with their own physical and psychic pabula, in their respective structures, in their respective forms.

Now, when one’s goal goes from crude to cruder, the distance, i.e., the length of the radius, increases. The person has drifted away from the centre because of his base thoughts, base longings and base actions. And when the thoughts and actions go from subtle to subtler, the length of the radius decreases, and a day comes, a sweet moment comes, when the person becomes one with the Nucleus. That is what is called mokśa.

Tasmin haḿso Bhrámyate Brahmacakre.” “Haḿso” means “jiiva”, that is, “living”, “Haḿso” is the acoustic root of the jiiva. Each and every object has its own acoustic root. “A” is the acoustic root of creation. “Ae” is the acoustic root of knowledge. “Ka” is the acoustic root of the expressed world. “Kha” is the acoustic root of the sky. “Ra” is the acoustic root of energy. Similarly, “haḿso” is the acoustic root of the jiiva.

Tasmin haḿso Bhrámyate Brahmacakre.” This haḿso, this jiiva, is moving in its Cosmic system, on its Cosmic route. The small system is the atomic system, and bigger than the atomic system is this ethereal system of ours. In the atomic system there is a small nucleus, and electrons are moving round it. And in our ethereal system, the earth is the nucleus and the moon is moving round it. And similarly, in our Brahma Cakra, Puruśottama is the Nucleus, and each and every entity, animate or inanimate, is moving around Him. And they will be moving round Him.

Prthagátmánaḿ preritáraiṋca matvá” – All entities will continue to move around Him as long as they feel that they and their Nucleus, the progeny and the Progenitor, are different and far away from each other. And when they feel, “I am part of the Supreme Father and I should be one with Him,” they become one with Him in this big ocean of divine nectar.

And what happens then? “Juśt́astatastenámrtatvameti.” Created beings attain immortality. You know that attaining immortality is not within the reach, not within the capacity, of human stamina. For this the grace of Parama Puruśa is an essential prerequisite. And this grace of Parama Puruśa is always showering on all without exception. Therefore, attaining immortality is the birthright of every human being. Those who want to deprive human beings of their birthright are the enemies of mankind. They are demons in human form. Expose such demons, such cursed persons of the human society, and establish a society free from all exploitation. See that all opportunities for exploitation, even a wee bit of exploitation, are eliminated.

*Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three has been published by our Ananda Marga Publications (B), Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, Tiljala, Calcutta 700039. Henceforth they will be referred to as “AMPS (B) Publishers”.

**One of the important consequences of the distortion introduced by the AMPS (B) Publishers, is that it led them to misname the discourse. AMPS (B) Publishers wrote their own concluding paragraph to replace the last three paragraphs on the audio recording of Bábá's discourse. In this process, they used a word twice in the closing paragraph—“birthright”—which Bábá never used in the entire discourse. And they then used the content of this erroneous self-authored final paragraph, as the basis for naming the discourse. Thus the main title theme—“birthright”—is a word which Bábá Himself never even spoke.

Bábá personally gave titles to His DMC and RU discourses. With other discourses such as general darshans, He left the job of title-giving to the AMPS Publishers. It is important to note that by the sorts of titles Bábá gave to His DMC and RU discourses, He has taught us that a discourse title should (a) clearly reflect the main theme of the discourse, and (b) itself contain the actual language used in the discourse. By giving the title “The Birthright of the Microcosm” the AMPS (B) Publishers have adhered to neither of these rules. “The Birthright of the Microcosm” is not the main theme of the discourse, and this word “birthright” is not used by Bábá anywhere in the discourse. The reason for our AMPS (B) Publishers' distorted title is clear: they followed the theme of that final, distorted paragraph which they themselves had written. So this is a serious ramification of wrongful transcription practices.

Here is our suggestion for a title for this discourse. The title both (a) reflects the main theme of the discourse, and (b) includes the language of the discourse:
“Brahmacakra, Jiiva and Exploitation No More”

About Distortions in "The Birthright of the Microcosm" - Part Three

Bábá

Namaskára Respected Márgii Brothers and Sisters,

Here we continue presentation of the second Ánanda Márga Discourse of this network, which has been prepared in “as is” fashion—that is, exactly as spoken by Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji. The discourse has been titled by the AMPS (B) Publishers as “The Birthright of the Microcosm”, and printed in Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three*.

Thus far you have received the first two postings in this series.

Here follows the third posting, which presents the errors in the Hindi Language Edition of this discourse.

Distortion in Hindi translations of Discourse published by B and H groups

There was a significant error made in translating the original English discourse for publication into Hindi. That error was never detected, and because of this it became perpetuated in the subsequent Hindi edition, and continues to be present in all AMPS Hindi books containing this discourse up to the present day. The recurring nature of this error suggests that our AMPS editors do not take the interest or concern even to read through the earlier edition before reprinting it.

Critical Section Missing

Here is the matter: in the first Hindi Edition (1995) there was an important sentence left out of the translation, due to which the entire concerning paragraph became literally absurd and nonsensical. And this problem was never fixed; it continued in the subsequent Hindi edition. So the missing sentence which rendered a paragraph meaningless in the 1995 edition, continued to be missing in the 2004 Hindi Edition.

The first time the critical sentence is missing is in the volume Ánanda Vacanámrtam Parts 1-3 (1995) Hindi, published in Calcutta by Ác. Vijayánanda Ávt. The mistake is on page 186, in the third paragraph. Again the same mistake appears in Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three (2004) Hindi; Publisher Ác. Rupátiitánanda Ávt, on page 26, in the second paragraph.

What Bábá Really Said

For those knowing Hindi, we present the actual section below so you may read it for yourselves. First below, is the corresponding section of the “as is” English discourse:

"Now, when one’s goal becomes cruder from crude, the distance, that is, the length of the radius, increases. He is drifted away from the center because of his base thoughts, and base longings, and base actions. And when the thoughts and actions become subtler from subtle, the length of the radius decreases, and a day comes, a sweet moment comes, when he becomes one with the Nucleus. That is what is called mukti or mokśa. Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe brhante."

AMPS (B) Hindi Translation Introduces Critical Distortion

Here is the same section in the published Hindi edition. Those knowing Hindi will note that a critical sentence—or really parts of two successive sentences—is missing from the middle of this paragraph:

अस्तु, जब किसी का लक्ष्य स्थूल से स्थूलतर की ओर होता है, तो दूरियाँ अर्थात्‌ व्यासार्ध बढ़ते हैं | हीन विचारों, हीन इच्छाओं, और हीन कार्यों के कारण, सूक्ष्म से सूक्ष्मतर की ओर जाते हैं | व्यासार्ध घटता जाता है | और, एक समय आता है, एक मधुरक्षण उपस्थित होता है ...

For those not knowing Hindi, here below is the translation of what the AMPS (B) Publishers have printed in the above Hindi:

"Now, when one’s goal becomes cruder from crude, the distance, that is, the length of the radius, increases. Because of his base thoughts, base longings, and base actions, he moves from the subtle to the subtler. The length of the radius decreases. And a day comes, a sweet moment comes ...”

So the Hindi section is a gross mistranslation of the original English paragraph above. There is a section missing in the middle, to conclude the part about what happens to those with crude thoughts. And the introduction of the section about those with subtle thoughts is also missing. As a result of the missing section, the two sections—about those with crude thoughts and those with subtle thoughts—became merged into one confused mess.

Ramifications of Missing Section

This nonsensical paragraph was printed in the original Hindi Edition in 1995, and then again reprinted in the same way in Hindi in 2004. Both times, it was reprinted with the same nonsensical paragraph. This demonstrates that what to speak of not comparing to the original sound recording, no one even read the discourse to make sure it made sense. And in its corrupt state, it got printed not once but twice in successive Hindi editions.

AMPS (H/EC) Publishes AMPS (B) Books Without Proofing/Checking

The 2004 Hindi edition was printed by our AMPS (H/EC) Publishers in Ranchi. (The publisher was Ác. Rupátiitánanda Ávt, who at that time was in H group. Some that after that, the EC/Unity/Third Front group broke off from H group, and dada Rupátiitánanda has joined the EC group. So the responsibility for these publications is shared by H group and EC group.) The fact that AMPS (H/EC) Publishers in Ranchi took the books published by B group and turned around and printed those very books again in their own name without checking them at all, shows that for H/EC group this is just a business: to turn the profit—nothing more than that. Otherwise if any of the AMPS (H/EC) Publishers had been concerned enough to read this discourse even once, they would have realized there was a serious mistake in it. But in the absence of such concern for quality, they simply went on blindly reprinting the same mistakes.

Caught up in Their Own Web

It is an interesting observation that the H/EC group of that time did not trust B group on anything, and they were continuously involved in to-the-death legal clashes in court. But H/EC group did demonstrate full trust on B group in one area: they took the books published by B-group and turned around and published them point blank, without checking anything. This was a matter of self-destruction: without checking or confirming anything in the discourses, H/EC group accepted those books together with all their serious distortions. H/EC group has taken responsibility for everything in the discourses published by B group, and printed their own name on the publisher's page.

It is like a thief who stole a box off a train. In the process of escaping with the box he got caught by the police. Upon their questioning he insisted it was his own box. The police proceeded to open the box and found inside the dead body of a murdered child. So now the thief has trapped himself in a murder. The police had asked him if the box was his and he swore it was. Now he is trapped.

In the same way, H/EC group acquired B group's distortion-ridden printed discourses, and took credit for the discourses by reprinting them in their own name. Having claimed credit as the publisher, they are now getting caught red-handed as the creators of distortion-filled discourses such as this one containing the nonsensical paragraph in question.

Same Distortion Persists Even Today

Of note, the current H group Publications Secretary Ác. Mŕtyuinjayánanda Ávt., has not done anything to change this status quo. The books continue to be taken from B group and reprinted point blank, with no editing or proof checking involved. And the 2004 Edition of this Hindi discourse continues to be sold today with the same critical error. If Ác. Mŕtyuinjayánanda Ávt had read the discourse, he could have immediately detected the nonsensical paragraph and created an errata page for the book. But that has not been done.

We cannot assume to know why Ác. Mŕtyuinjayánanda Ávt behaves the way he does; only he knows the reason. Nonetheless, the result of his work is in view for all to see.
Nothing is ever changed or fixed; the books he receives from B group he turns around and sends to a printing company for printing, with his name as AMPS Publisher. From longstanding habits such as these it does not seem unfair to conclude that our H group AMPS publications department is verily and unfortunately located in the plastic bag where Ác. Mŕtyuinjayánanda Ávt holds the B group books to bring to the printing company.

It should be added that the Ánanda Vacanámrtam series is the easiest to read and most popular, and Hindi is the most common language version read and purchased, of all our AMPS publications. Even then as popular and in demand as this series is, still the Hindi edition of this discourse in Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three, with its distorted nonsensical paragraph, remains unchanged after all these years both in the B group and H/EC group publications.

About Distortions in "The Birthright of the Microcosm" - Part Two

Bábá

Namaskára Respected Márgii Brothers and Sisters,

Here we continue discussion of the second Ánanda Márga Discourse of this network, which has been prepared in “as is” fashion—that is, exactly as spoken by Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji. The discourse has been titled by the AMPS Publishers as “The Birthright of the Microcosm”, and printed in Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three*.

Earlier you received the first of the series in which the errors in the published discourse were introduced.

Here follows the second in a series of four. This posting details several of the concerning errors in “The Birthright of the Microcosm”, Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three.

In addition to the missing final three paragraphs (discussed in the first posting), there are other mistakes and distortions in the remainder of the published discourse. We picked out some of those and present them below. There are however other mistakes as well, which space limitations do not allow for here, but which you can detect by comparing the “as is” transcription with the published version both of which will be posted in the fourth of this series.

MISTAKES in the published discourse (by AMPS Central, Tilajala) Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three

Key:
1. The sections from the published discourse containing errors appear first below (“published version”), with serious errors in red.
2. Following that is the corresponding section of the “as is” discourse.
3. Sections and words highlighted in purple are missing entirely from the printed discourse.

Note: “published version” = the discourse published in Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three by Ananda Marga Publications, Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, Tiljala, Calcutta 700039.

Mistake #1:

Published Version: Text is missing.

Version typed by Kálátiita*:

Explanation

The last three paragraphs of the discourse are missing, i.e., from “As soon as they feel...” up to the end. Our AMPS Publishers removed these paragraphs entirely from the discourse, made no record of the fact that they had done so, and instead wrote their own final paragraph and printed it in the discourse in Bábá's name.

Due to the absence of the concluding section, the discourse remains incomplete. With the addition of the concluding section, the discourse message becomes all the more clear.

*Kálátiita, one of our Ánanda Márga Discourse network Editors, has carefully listened to the original audio recording of Bábá's discourse and transcribed it verbatim.

Mistake #2:

Published Version:

Version typed by Kálátiita:

This section is not part of the discourse given by Bábá, and so has not been included.

Explanation

This entire paragraph is self-composed by our AMPS Publishers and placed as the final paragraph as though it were on the sound recording which Bábá has given in His own voice.

Mistake #3:

Published Version:

And in our ethereal system, the earth is the nucleus and the moon is moving round it. And similarly, in our Brahma Cakra, Puruśottama is the Nucleus, and each and every entity, animate or inanimate, is moving around Him.”

Version typed by Kálátiita:

And in our ethereal system, the earth is the nucleus and the moon is moving round it. And, in our solar system, the sun is the nucleus and so many planets and satellites are moving round it. And similarly, in our Brahma Cakra, the Puruśottama is the Nucleus, and each and every entity, animate or inanimate, is moving around Him.”

Explanation

Bábá has given the analogy of our solar system as a model for Puruśottama and the jiivas. The AMPS Publishers have left out this sentence entirely.

Mistake #4:

Published Version: “Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe brhante. His created beings, His loving sons and daughters, His children, are moving round Him.”
Version typed by Kálátiita: “Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe brhante. But, the created beings, His loving sons and daughters, His children, they are moving around Him.”

i.e., His created beings, His loving sons and daughters, His children, are moving round Him => should be => But, the created beings, His loving sons and daughters ...

Explanation

The AMPS Publishers have removed Bábá's word “but”—yet this word “but” has importance because in the prior section Bábá is explaining that the entire world belongs to all His children, and yet some exploiters, i.e., those to whom Baba is referring in this discourse, want to deprive others of their legitimate and paternal rights to this world and the things in it. And Bábá's reply is—but Parama Purus'a's children are all moving around Him in this universe, are all His children, and so cannot be detached from this world or deprived of their rights to it. The word “but” expresses that this is a reply to the negative works of exploiters, and so the word “but” should not be removed.

Mistake #5:

Published Version: “They are the cursed children of the Supreme Progenitor.”

[new paragraph] “Sarvájiive sarvasaḿsthe. According to mental propensities...”

Version typed by Kálátiita: “They are the cursed children of the Supreme Progenitor. Sarvájiive."

[new paragraph] “And, sarvasaḿsthe. Now, according to mental propensities...”

i.e., “sarvájiive” should be the last word of the previous paragraph, and “sarvasaḿsthe” the first word of the next paragraph. But our AMPS Publishers put both together at the beginning of the next paragraph instead of splitting them up and linking them each with their relevant paragraph.

Explanation

Bábá generally uses the approach of breaking up a shloka into parts, and using it to explain Ánanda Márga ideology. He cites one word or clause of the shloka, then explains what is relevant from it for Ánanda Márga ideology. And to conclude that explanation, He will then again repeat the word or clause about which He just spoke. Bábá will then go on, taking the next clause of the shloka to explain Ánanda Márga ideology in the following paragraph. But in the above mistake, the AMPS Publishers took the word of the shloka belonging to the end of the previous paragraph, and put it together with the following word to be explained in the next paragraph. This shows that our AMPS Publishers did not understand Bábá's intent with the shloka, why He uses a given clause at the beginning and again repeats it at the end of an explanation. It is a significant error, because this sort of AMPS Publishers error is unfortunately found in many discourses where Bábá is using a shloka to explain Ánanda Márga ideology.

About Distortions in "The Birthright of the Microcosm" - Part One

Baba

Namaskára Respected Márgii Brothers and Sisters,

Here we introduce the second Ánanda Márga Discourse of this network, which has been prepared in “as is” fashion—that is, exactly as spoken by Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji. The discourse has been titled by the AMPS Publishers as “The Birthright of the Microcosm”, and printed in Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three*.

Here follows the first in a series of four. This posting introduces concerning errors in “The Birthright of the Microcosm”, Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three.

Major Error in Publication

The original sound file of the discourse “The Birthright of the Microcosm” is commonly available, and after listening to it a major error was discovered in the printed discourse from Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three. The last three paragraphs of Bábá's spoken discourse are missing, and in their place the final paragraph of the published version is written from beginning to end by our AMPS Publishers and not given by Bábá at all. This in itself is not a matter to be ignored. Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji has given a discourse, and it is the duty of our AMPS Publishers to faithfully bring His full discourse in print. It cannot be said what may have been the motive or reasoning behind such a decision, to remove the last three paragraphs of Bábá's spoken discourse and replace them with one paragraph entirely of their own composition.

Error Not Acknowledged in Publication Notes

As consequential as the action itself of writing the last portion of the discourse themselves, is that the AMPS Publishers did not express or make known what they had done. If the AMPS Publishers had a reason for removing the last three paragraphs of what Táraka Brahma had spoken and replacing them with a paragraph of their own composition, then they were obligated to put a note about that in the publication. But instead, the AMPS Publishers placed their self-composed paragraph there as though it were part of Bábá's discourse—and allowed for the inevitable misunderstanding on the part of all readers that these were Bábá's actual words. So it is a serious point that honest transcription was not carried out. Devotees read this discourse thinking the words are Bábá's, but the final three paragraphs of the recorded discourse have been removed and in their place is a final paragraph written wholly by the AMPS Publishers.

Honesty and sincerity are needed in the publication of Bábá's discourses.

No Traceable Record of the Distortion

Another serious consequence of our AMPS Publishers’ dealing here is that because there was no note documenting the removal of the final three paragraphs, so there was no way for anyone to know about it. As a result, the printed discourse could not be repaired in all these years. The book was printed in 1981, thirty-two years ago. In the absence of documentation, no one could know of the missing last three paragraphs from Bábá's spoken discourse, or the false final paragraph of the printed discourse. How many years might have passed before someone listened to the original recording again and realized the distortions that had been introduced?

It should be noted that this is not a unique occurrence in the published discourses. Indeed, the next ten discourses which we have lined up to send to you are unfortunately similar in this way.

Original Sound Recording Not Corroborated with Subsequent Editions

The problem of course did not end with the first printed edition of the discourse. It was passed on into all the subsequent English editions, and was also translated with the very same defect into Bengali and Hindi, and printed in that way over the course of multiple editions in those languages as well.

The discourse was first published in English (Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three) in 1981 with the above distortion. It was then translated into Bengali with the same errors, and from there translated into and published in Hindi in 1995—again with the false final paragraph and missing three paragraphs from the sound recording. New editions were published in Bengali in 1997, and in Hindi in 2004, still with the same errors. New English editions were published in 1986 and again in 2004, plus the four consecutive English Electronic Editions—each time with the same distortions.

Here is a record of the subsequent publications where this discourse has been printed in English, Bengali, or Hindi each time with the very defect described above:

Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three Editions, English, 1981 & 1986; Publisher Ác Náráyańánanda, Calcutta

Ánanda Vacanámrtam Parts 1-3, 1995 Edition Hindi, pp.184-187; Publisher Ác. Vijayánanda Ávt, Calcutta

Ánanda Vacanámrtam Parts 1-3, 1997 Edition, Bengali, pp.189-192; Publisher Ác. Vijayánanda Ávt, Calcutta

Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part Three, 2004 Edition, Hindi; Publisher Ác. Rupátiitánanda Ávt, Ánanda Nagar

All Electronic Editions from the first up to the fourth and final Edition 7.5; Publisher Ác. Sarvátmánanda Ávt, Calcutta

The fact that the last three paragraphs of the recorded discourse are missing not only from the first edition but from all subsequent editions and in all languages, shows that the AMPS Publishers never checked the sound recording against the printed version in preparing subsequent editions. They simply reprinted what had been printed earlier, and called it a new edition.

New Editions are Not Edited but Just Reprinted

By this it is proved that nothing changes from one edition to the next. It is called a new “edition”, but there is no “editing” involved in it; it is merely a re-printing, and the mistakes made in one edition are passed on to the next.

This is extremely dangerous, as with the passage of time, time itself becomes a mark of validation in the eyes of people. Unfortunately, thirty-two years have passed with nothing having been repaired in this discourse. Ultimately as one hundred or two hundred years pass, readers and editors equally tend to make the critical mistake of accepting that if after so many years there are still changes in the printed version compared with the sound recording, Baba must have wanted it that way. After all, the books have passed the test of time.

In order to prevent this sort of permanent distortion of our Ánanda Márga scripture, it is essential that our AMPS Publishers take responsibility for comparing what has been printed in past editions with what Bábá says on the recording. This way the AMPS Publishers can confirm the two match up prior to printing—and if there are errors they can be repaired in the new edition.

Discourse Misnamed by Our AMPS Publishers

There is yet another important consequence of the distortion introduced by the AMPS Publishers in the final paragraphs of this discourse: The discourse got misnamed by the AMPS Publishers as a result of their erroneous transcription practices. As mentioned, they wrote their own concluding paragraph to replace the last three paragraphs on the recording. In this process, they used a word twice in the closing paragraph—“birthright”—which Bábá never used in the entire discourse. And they then used the content of this erroneous, self-authored final paragraph, as the basis for naming the discourse.

By giving the title “The Birthright of the Microcosm” the AMPS Publishers have adhered to neither of these rules. “The Birthright of the Microcosm” is not the main theme of the discourse, and this word “birthright” is not used by Bábá anywhere in the discourse. The reason for our AMPS Publishers' distorted title is clear: they followed the theme of that final, distorted paragraph which they themselves had written. So this is a serious ramification of wrongful transcription practices.

Here is our suggestion for a title for this discourse. The title both (a) reflects the main theme of the discourse, and (b) includes the language of the discourse:

Brahmacakra, Jiiva and Exploitation No More”

Discourse Contains More Distortions

Please note that in addition to the missing final three paragraphs, there are numerous other mistakes and distortions in the remainder of the published discourse. We picked out some of those and will present them in a separate posting in the coming days. There are however other mistakes as well, which you can pick up by comparing the “as is” transcription with the published version which will follow this posting in the next days.

We welcome your thoughts and comments.

New Network: Bábá's As-Is Discourses

Namaskára Respected Márgii Brothers and Sisters,

"Ánanda Márga Discourses" is a new network, dedicated for the dissemination of unaltered, pure, as-is discourses as delivered by Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji, propounder of Ánanda Márga ideology. Gradually, we hope to provide an entire series of discourses, each in the original language in which Bábá has delivered it.

In Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji's physical presence, devotees used to sit before Him and listen to His divine teachings from Him directly. Devotees of today should get the full experience of what Bábá spoke on those occasions, as is. That is the aim of this network.

It is unfortunate that hundreds of Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji's printed discourses today are (a) edited, (b) modified, (c) re-written, or (d) missing the content of the second and third languages when Bábá spoke in more than one language. (Re-written means that Baba spoken in one language, say English, and the discourse was translated by Ananda Marga Publications into another language, say Bengali, and then re-translated from that into English. The re-translated version was then published as though it were the original English discourse.)

So, our AM books are not a direct printing of the very words Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji used. Because of that, by reading a printed AM discourse today one is not receiving the actual words which Bábá spoke. Earlier devotees had the privilege of hearing Bábá's discourses directly from Him; devotees of today and the future should have the opportunity to read and enjoy Bábá's discourses "as is". This is our motto: to provide whatever Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji has spoken "as is"—which today is available in only a small handful out of the large number of Baba's published discourses.

History has witnessed that Lord Shiva's and Lord Krśńa's teachings got so adulterated that they lost almost all of their original essence and spirit. Now what remains of their "teachings" is mostly just dogma. At present, Ánanda Márga discourses are to a degree in that very path of distortion; they are not in perfect order. Some skeptics may not believe this; but they will be convinced when we provide the unadulterated version of Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji's recorded discourses, one discourse at a time, one after another on an ongoing basis, by His grace.

Here we are talking about those discourses of Bábá which are available in recorded audio form.

Now, because of shortage of volunteers, it is difficult to publish every day or every week. But we have planned to regularly publish discourses as they become available. We welcome your suggestions and support. Indeed, we need the help of all Márgiis who have Bábá's audio cassettes, or any sort of help they can provide.

Indeed for this great task, we need everyone's support. Good people will naturally support this work; we request those whose nature is to place obstacles in the path of good deeds, to also support this lofty task.

Any Ánanda Márgiis who would like to receive these discourses are welcome to send us your email address, and we will include you in future mailings of "as is" discourses. In view of the importance of disseminating accurate Ánanda Márga Discourses, we further request that recipients of these mails please forward and send these "as is" discourses to all other Márgiis as well.

Respectfully,

Ciranútana
